2016 Nissan Pathfinder in Hopkinsville

There's a lot to like about the 2016 Nissan Pathfinder. The midsize crossover SUV can seat up to seven, has plenty of head-and-leg room, and there's a lot of cargo space out back. It's available in four trim levels, which gives buyers choice in finding the right vehicle for their wants and needs. For 2016, the Pathfinder gets a standard heated steering wheel for the SL and a Cold Weather package for the SV. And the interior gets a new contrasting black and beige color scheme.

The Pathfinder trim levels include the base S, the nicely-equipped SV, the plush SL and the top-of-the-line Platinum. All come with four-wheel antilock disc brakes, stability control, traction control, hill start assist and six airbags as part of the standard safety equipment list. The Pathfinder scored highly with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, receiving five out of five stars in overall safety. It equally scored well with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, receiving the top rank of "Good" in such crash tests as small-overlap frontal-offset, moderate-overlap frontal-offset and roof-strength. Advance safety features like rear parking sensors and a rearview camera are available in select trims and equipment configurations.

A 3.5-liter V-6 powers the Pathfinder. The continuously variable transmission transfers the generated 260 horsepower and 240 lb.-ft. of torque to the front wheels (FWD). All-wheel drive (AWD) is available. FWD models have a fuel economy of 23 mpg in combined driving* while those with AWD come in at 22 mpg combined.

"The 2016 Nissan Pathfinder provides a pleasant ride and absorbs uneven roads with ease, according to critics," points out U.S. News & World Report. "The engine is sufficiently powerful but the transmission can be noisy at high speeds. As a city and suburban hauler, the Pathfinder is a good bet, but don't expect to go rock-crawling. The Pathfinder gets very good fuel economy for the class."

When properly equipped, the Pathfinder can tow up to 5,000 lbs.

Besides safety and power, the Pathfinder comes generously equipped with creature features. Standard on the base S, for example, is a tri-zone automated climate control system, a six-speaker audio system and a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel and column setup. Higher trims add on such popular bits as leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof and fog lamps. Buyers can further customize their Pathfinder either through standalone items or packages such as Family Entertainment which adds dual displays to the rear seats and a DVD entertainment setup.
